Sou’wester Lodge is proud to offer you a host of wellness resources. Between a renovated 1954 Boles Aero, Finnish sauna and lush spa garden; therapeutic massage and bodywork, meditation, community gatherings, sound healing, wellness workshops, and more, are available to our guests and the local community.

Our Garden Spa & Finnish Sauna.

 

 

Our dry Finnish Sauna is built out of the highest quality clear western cedar and hand milled Port Orford Cedar benches and can hold up to 7 comfortably. The Garden Spa also has a beautiful changing and showering room as well as a cold plunge in a private outdoor garden for cooling off. It is clothing optional first come first serve.

Currently available to guests with their stay. Community members may also join for $6/session, $10 for 2, and $30 for a monthly membership. Everyone gets to try it out for free the first time.

The perfect way to warm your bones while visiting the coast.

COMMUNITY SAUNA & FULL BODY CLAY MASK

2ND & 4TH THURSDAYS JUNE THRU OCTOBER

11am to 1pm.

Come experience the therapeutic workings of a Finnish sauna in combination with a full body mask of wild foraged mineral clay. These natural therapies joined together, act as powerful means of detoxification, stress relief, muscle relaxant, skin cleanser, and more.  Bring your bathing suit and a friend, be prepared to sweat it out with like minded folks, brave a cold plunge, and paint each other with some Skagit river valley clay

$20 for Sou’wester guests $25 for general public.

Bathing suits are required.  Dress to accommodate the maximum amount of clay.  Towels, clay, information hand-outs, and filtered water provided.  There will also be an opportunity to purchase wild harvested mineral clay for future personal use.

COMMUNITY MINDFULNESS MEDITATION

SATURDAYS 9-9:45am

Come sit with us in relaxed awareness, in a vintage 54’ Boles Aero travel trailer. Inspired by the Soto Zen tradition, meditations will include brief instructions with two periods of sitting, and one walking meditation.  This practice is valuable for those seeking stress reduction, community connection, improved mood health, and an expansive connection to life.

COMMUNITY SOUND BATHS

Saturdays 10-10:30am

 

A unique ambient sound experience, blending concert and harmonic healing in which participants are enveloped in the vibrational drones of various traditional healing instruments.

SHINRIN-YOKU (FOREST SOAKING)

1ST & 3RD  THURSDAYS JUNE THRU OCTOBER

10AM-11:15PM

An experiential transformative healing experience that includes light somatic exercise, walking meditation (kinhin), and still connection to the energies of the forest.

HALF DAY WELLNESS RETREATS

EVERY 3RD WEDNESDAY JUNE THRU OCTOBER

9AM-1PM

We begin the day by soaking up the energies of the coastal forest in stillness, walking meditation, and light somatic exercises.  Then, we return to Sou’wester lodge for a Finnish sauna and full body masque of wild harvested mineral clay.  Wild tea and snacks follow with the opportunity for light yoga.  A sound bath follows for a group vibrational therapy session, ending the day with a period of mindfulness meditation and community supportive discussion.

$60 per person

FOREST AID

First aid folk remedies from the forests of Cascadia

MAY 13TH & OCTOBER 14TH

11AM-2PM

The forests of the Cascadian bioregion are rich with medicine.  In this workshop we will learn to identify specific trees, lichen, plants, and fungi that contain therapeutics beneficial for human health, learn how to responsibly harvest them, and make first aid products for home use.  Participants will walk away with an overview of the ecology of healing with plant medicines, ID skills, and techniques for making wound sprays, liniments, and muscle balms.

$35 per person. Handouts and a take-home sample included.

 


 

POLYPORE THERAPEUTICS

The medicine offerings of shelf fungi

SEPTEMBER 16TH

11AM-2PM

 

Lets explore the worlds renowned and rare medicinal mushrooms coexisting in the forests of Cascadia.  This workshop includes: an introduction to the classification of fungi, identification techniques for medicinal polypores (including distinctions from common look-a likes), an overview of the medicinal constituents of each species and their histories in healing, conscious and sustainable wild harvesting skills, as well as medicine making techniques for tinctures, balms, and teas.

$35 per person. Handouts and a take-home sample included.
