Erisy Watt & Jeremy Ferrara : Presented by Sou’wester Arts

Erisy Watt is a Nashville-raised folk artist based in Portland, OR. Consistently referred to as “the next-in-line to the likes of Joni Mitchell and Norah Jones, her music is an exercise in what contemporary folk today sounds like at its peak.”

Inspired by both her time spent studying and working along the central coast of California and in remote regions of Thailand, Indonesia, and Nepal, Watt’s music invites listeners to rejoice in the beauty and freedom of wilder places. With several US and international tours over the past years, Watt’s shared the stage with acclaimed artists John Craigie, Hurray for the Riff Raff, L.A. Salami, Mr. Little Jeans, Shook Twins, Kuinka, Dustbowl Revival, Royal Jelly Jive, T Sisters and Rainbow Girls and released her debut album on July 26th, 2019.

Jeremy Ferrara

What good is a song if it doesn’t make you feel something? Jeremy Ferrara knows this, and refuses to waste a minute of your time. His staggeringly sincere songs are made to wash 10-foot waves of emotion over listeners. Much like the sea, Ferrara’s music is deep, complex, and full of life. His unique songwriting style features unabashed poetic professions of his most vulnerable moments and intimate inner thoughts. Sometimes sorrowful and slow, other times content and forward-moving; Ferrara’s debut full-length album (Out May 1st) finds him inviting us to follow along as he wanders through a broad spectrum of feelings.

Anna Tivel: Presented by Sou’wester Arts
Jul 31 @ 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm

Anna Tivel is an American singer-songwriter from Portland, Oregon. She has released four studio albums on Portland-based Fluff & Gravy Records.[3] Her 2017 album Small Believer received positive reviews[4][5] and was named a “Top 10 underheard album of 2017” by Ann Powers of NPR.[6] In 2019, NPR called her album The Question “one of the most ambitious folk records of 2019”;[7] it was also listed by Paste as one of “10 essential folk albums from 2019”.[8]

Rolling Stone listed her as a standout performer at the 2019 AmericanaFest in Nashville, writing “In a week of countless songsmiths showcasing their attempt at that exact type of singer-songwriter storytelling, Tivel’s winding, largely chorus-less tales shined and shimmered.”[9] The magazine also named the lead single from The Question, “Fenceline”, a “song you need to know”.[10]

Tivel was born in La Conner, Washington and grew up in a musical family, learning violin and fiddle as a child. After moving to Portland at age 18, she developed an interest in songwriting and began to write and perform her own material.[11] Many of her songs are vignettes about the lives and struggles of ordinary people; she said in an interview “I’m drawn over and over to the small stories of people (myself included) just trying to get by, to do a little better, to feel some sort of beauty in an ugly world.”[12] Tivel’s songs are often somber in tone as she has said that she “just [doesn’t] trust happy songs as much”.[13]

On her last album, The Question, she collaborated with engineer Brian Joseph and producer and musician Shane Leonard.[14]

Papi Fimbres: Presented by Sou’wester Art

David “Papi” Fimbres creates sound out of thin air that feels familiar at first, but at a second thought, is nothing you’ve ever heard before. As a percussionist and multi-instrumentalist Fimbres wields an arc of pure infectious energy and a rare and cosmic control over the rhythmic and melodic spectrum. Born & raised in the Pacific West Coast, his Latino culture is immersed in not only his music but his way of life as he sees it. Everything is here for a reason, and within that, everything has a sound that can be curated and understood.
