The Thanks A Lot Honky Tonk Concern is what happens when a married couple moves to the woods and makes a band where they each play their not-main instrument while composing music with screaming harmonies about the wildlife in their neighborhood.
Veteran NY psych-pop act Shana Falana just released her new LP Here Comes The Wave, her 2nd with Team Love Records. Emerging from New York’s vast drone/psych scene, Shana combines live looping of reverb-drenched vocals and guitar with tribal drums and stunning visual projections. Her live experience has often been described as transcendental.

The Horsenecks play hard-hitting and heartfelt Old Time and classic Bluegrass music. Their sound is centered around the pairing of the signature rhythmic Appalachian fiddle style of Oregonain Gabrielle Macrae, (the Macrae Sisters, Hook & Anchor) and with the driving yet subtle three-finger banjo playing of Liverpudlian Barry Southern (Tramp Attack, The Loose Moose Stringband.) Gabrielle’s playing style is the result of being raised in the Old Time music hotbed of Portland, OR and being exposed to the fiddle traditions of the Southeast through years of traveling to festivals and learning from some of the greatest players in the genre. Barry’s banjo playing ranges from thrilling and high-octane to moody and captivating. Harmony singing and thoughtful song writing bring the two multi-instrumentalists to the stage with an exciting and varied set of upbeat foot-stompers, new takes on old standards, innovative fiddle-banjo compositions and heartfelt country and gospel songs. The Horsenecks continue to set a new standard in today’s traditional music scene with appearances at major festivals in the USA and the UK, including the Cornwall Bluegrass Festival, Doolin Folk Festival, The Portland Old Time Gathering, and the Minnesota Bluegrass and Old Time Festival. They received critical acclaim in 2015 for their self-titled debut album. Their long-awaited second album, Fiddlehead was released in July, 2018.

Garett Brennan is a Portland, Ore-based songwriter, singer and instrumentalist. His solo work explores the far intimate corners of acoustic, roots and Americana, and his side project work with pigWar explores the fringe boundaries of soul, psychedelic and rock. His live performances are undeniably authentic and raw. Garett Brennan and Jon Neufeld have been playing together since 2008 through various incarnations and have released three albums together. Their show on December 8 will explore a whole new vault of materials that they are preparing to take into the studio for their next album this winter. Brennan’s material pulls from the mellow pockets of JJ Cale, the old-timey sensibility of Gillian Welch and the lyrical moody vibes of more modern writers like Gregory Alan Isakov and Jeff Tweedy.

Brush Prairie is a vintage honky tonk country band playing a mix of covers by the likes of Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams etc and originals that sound of the same era. Fronted by Zia McCabe of The Dandy Warhols, named after the small Washington town she was born in.

Jerry David DeCicca’s released two albums in 2018, Time the Teacher (March 2018) and Burning Daylight (Sept. 2018). Noted reviews included Americana Album of the Month (March, 2018) by Uncut magazine and called “a remarkable feat of empathy… DeCicca’s Wondrous Country” by The Fader. DeCicca’s albums have been featured in Aquarium Drunkard, Magnet, Mojo and Brooklyn Vegan and included collaborators like Will Oldham, Kelley Deal, and Spooner Oldham. He is also the producer of albums by Larry Jon Wilson (Drag City), Will Beeley (Tompkins Square), Ed Askew (Tin Angel) and the Numero Group. His previous band, The Black Swans, recorded 5 albums, toured for over 10 years, and was recognized in Pitchfork, Tiny Mix Tapes, American Songwriter, and many more.
Adam Ostrar recorded 4 albums with his band, Manishevitz (JagJaguar) before heading out as a solo artist. His latest record, Brawls in the Briar on Super Secret Records, has earthy rustic qualities reminiscent of John Fahey, Tim Buckley, with some of the mystical English folk of Bert Jansch and Robbie Basho. He’s known to cover Eno and touches on Moles/Richard Davies melodies.

Bring your favorite slippers to the Sou’wester and join us for a PJ Party and All Day Movies! Help us select a handful of wonderful movies from our massive VHS collection! We will publish a schedule of movies along with times so you can either watch them ALL, or pop in for your favorite one! Plus the popcorn bar will be OPEN!
Bitches of the Sun is an Oregon based trio founded in winter of 2017 by Willamette Week award winning vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Joshua Davis. After the session saxophonist made his way to the Pacific Northwest from Chicago, Illinois he decided to push his musical boundary and play his hand at being a front-man. In efforts to find a refreshing new sound that embodied traditional rock elements he was introduce to bassist Nick Wright and drummer Seth Shaler. Together this powerhouse has an extensive resume of individual features and group performances with the likes of Wyclef Jean, Mac Miller, Chance the Rapper and Buddy Guy. Described by its loyal fan base as “Portland’s rock band” the trio uses it’s diverse musical background to deliver a large selection of body shaking grooves wrapped in emotionally complex arrangements guaranteed to get everyone on the dance floor.
Every performance gifts the audience with unforgettable moments that can only be envied by those who missed out. And with the release of their 2018 self-titled Bitches of the Sun EP they are proving to be a force of limitless growth and longevity.
